World of Warcraft UI modification

I have been using addons with World of Warcraft almost since, the time I started playing back in the autumn of 2005. And I still remember somehow discovering Titan Panel back in 2006 in an Internet Cafe I used to work. Since then I have really changed a lot of addons for a various reasons. The most common reason for many fine addons I used these years was the end of life and the termination of development. Usually the developer would stop playing and no one would pick up the project, or some of them would eventually die after changing developers a few times. I stopped using other addons due to them being full of bugs or some times due to their memory consumption.

The only thing I don’t really remember is when I got really addicted to the custom heavily modified UI. The truth is that I am really unable to play the game with just the default UI, I really get the feeling that it is ugly and a lot of things are missing.

At this point my UI looks kind like the following screenshot:

Here follows a list of the addons I use:

  • NPCScan & NPCScan Overlay: Useful for finding rares (actually this helped me get the Time-Lost Proto-drake while questing in Storm Peaks with my Warrior) and while leveling my various alts, it helped me kill a lot of rare mobs.
  • Ackis Recipe List: Helps you find missing recipes for your trade skills (this one was really helpful while I was leveling inscription on my warlock).
  • AllPlayed: This one helps to keep stats about character, like rested experience, level, time played, gold etc with a simple data display.
  • Altoholic: It shares some functions with the allplayed but helps you track really more like achievements, trade skills, recipes, reputations, talent trees, bags, calendar info and generally stores a lot of info about your alts making them accessible for every character you play.
  • Altasloot Enhanced: A good addon that gives you easy access to the loot tables of many bosses as long as the items are in your local cache. You can also build wishlists to keep track of the loot you need.
  • Auctionator: A lite auction management addon.
  • Auditor: Helps you keep track of your income/expenses.
  • Bagnon: A bag managment addon, makes the bags appear like a single one, gives you a search function and keeps data about things you might store in the bank/alts so that you can access them from any place.
  • Bartender4: Actionbar replacement addon, I really really like it more than the default action bars.
  • Bazooka: Bar based on data broker, use similar with Fubar3 and Titan Panel.
  • Broker_CPU/Memory: A “plugin” for bazooka. It displays on the bar the addon memory usage, the current FPS along with the current latency.
  • Broker_Mail: Another “plugin” that displays if you have any new mail in your mailbox.
  • Broker_Repair: This one displays your durability percentage and you can also activate the options to automatically repair your gear when you talk to a vendor that can repair, plus it can automatically sell all the junk (gray items) in your inventory every time you visit a vendor.
  • Broker_Socialstate: This one gives you easy access, through a tooltip to all your online friends and guild mates.
  • ButtonFacade: This addon changes the buttons of the Bartender4 actionbar along with SatrinaBuffFrame and TotemTimer.
  • ButtonFacade Caith: This is the ButtonFacade theme I use.
  • Deadly Boss Mods: DBM is really good help with the various boss encounters.
  • Friend & Ignore Share: This one synchronizes the Friend & Ignore lists across your characters on a realm. Very helpful to keep your friends on every single character and the annoying people of every single of your characters.
  • Gatherer & WoWHead DB: A really helpful addon for gatherers.
  • GearScore: Here comes a really overhyped addon, though it is useful to see where you stand gearwise  compared to other people, that’s all. The truth is gearscore does not guarantee player skill, but many people fail to understand that simple fact.
  • Grid: I use this one on my non-healer characters as a party/raid frames replacement.
  • Mapster: I used to use Cartographer as a map replacement addon for a really long period of time, however the addon was not updated when the 3.3 version got released so, I tried to find something with similar usage.
  • MikScrollingBattleText: Scrolling text (heals/damage/etc) during combat. I have used for a long period of time SCT(Scrolling Combat Text) and then Parrot but changed since then for various reasons, I left Parrot due to slow, or lack of updates. I still prefer it more than the Blizzard integrated SCT.
  • Omen Threat Meter: A threat monitor, actually not so useful to me since I usually play healer, but still a good addon to check threat.
  • OmniCC: Adds cooldown timers on the actionbars.
  • Outfitter: Gear manager addon, I prefer it to the Blizzard integrated Gear manager due to the scripts. I am kind of forgetful so the script that changes the gear set along with the spec is really helpful.
  • PallyPower: (Paladin) Good blessing management addon for every paladin out there.
  • Panda: Useful addon for trade skill, especially helpful with disenchanting, milling, prospecting.
  • Postal: A wonderful addon for mail management. Especially if you use the auction house a lot and every day you get lots of mail.
  • Power Auras Classic: A really good addon to keep track of procs, buffs and stuff. I tend to forget stuff, so a colored circle or something around my character is really useful.
  • Prat 3.0: Chat addon, simply wonderful.
  • Quartz: A casting bar replacement, a really nice addon.
  • RatingBuster: This is an item stat breakdown and analysis tool that also helps you compare gear to check if an item is better for you or not.
  • SatrinaBuffFrame: Customizable replacement for the UI Buff Frame, a really nice one.
  • SexyMap: A customizable replacement for the default minimap that can be moved and skinned.
  • Shadowed Unit Frames: A customizable replacement to the default Blizzard unit frames with a relatively easy customization menu.
  • Skada Damage Meter: A really nice and lite damage meter, I used to use recount but at some point my addons used more than 100MB of memory so I was in search of some lite addons.
  • SpamMeNot: Because you need a way to keep the whispers of at least some spammers from reaching you.
  • Sunn – Viewport Art: Well this addon’s only use is to add some nice artwork in your user interface (see the demon artwork on the screenshot above).
  • TicTac: A replacement to the default tooltips, a pretty nice one in my opinion.
  • TotemTimers: (Shaman) this is a really nice addon that helps you keep manage the totems (instead of the default totem bar) in an easy way, plus it keeps track of the cooldown on the Reincarnation skill, the stacks of the shield you use along with the remaining time, plus the class weapon buff etc. It is a really helpful addon.
  • Vuhdo: (Healing) I really really love this addon, I used to use Healbot, which actually works in a very similar way. Highly customizable, with a lot of options to make a healer life easier.
  • XLoot: A nice replacement to the built-in lootframe.
  • XPBarNone: This is a nice replacement to the build-in XP bar, moveable and lightweight.
